The V-House is nestled in an up-and-coming locality, designed to cater to a modern lifestyle in Chennai.
The neighborhood's developing status suggests a demand for contemporary living spaces that blend architecture, interior, landscape design, and integrated services.
V-House is focused around three considerations: Bringing natural light into the house, harmony within urban constraints to enhance livability of the home and space optimization to ensure that every space has a purpose and is efficient.
Strategically placing windows and openings allows ample natural light to penetrate deep into the interior spaces, enhancing the overall ambiance and well-being of occupants.
Integrating local and cultural context, Common Praxis incorporated features like courtyards, balconies, and green spaces to establish a connection to the outdoors, enhancing the home's livability.
Efficient space utilization remains a priority, ensuring each area serves a distinct purpose. This involves optimizing room layouts and circulation paths while seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor spaces.
Warmth and vitality is brought into the space by abundant natural lighting. The architect’s vision extends beyond mere aesthetics; it embraces the practical benefits of sunlight, enhancing well-being and reducing energy consumption.
Designing a layout that supports both dynamic family life and the possibility of future growth within the neighborhood’s fabric was important to the client. Common Praxis designed a simple open plan layout centered around the courtyard.
The highlight of family homes is that they should be able to accommodate various activities, formal or informal, social and familial. This necessitated a flexible layout planning through the open plan layout. The strategic placement of furniture and the clear demarcation of different zones without the use of walls contributes to an uninterrupted visibility throughout the house thereby creating a harmonious and functional living space within the constraints of an urban setting. This intentional design choice aims to evoke a sense of continuity between the interior and exterior environments. By strategically demarcating zones without relying on walls, the layout ensures uninterrupted visibility throughout the house.
Building on continuity between interior and exterior, Common Praxis provided additional value by integrating landscape design into V-House.
This photograph illustrates the hardscaping aspect of the V-House's landscape design, showcasing the precision in the brickwork and the thoughtful arrangement of pathways and steps. It represents the integration of landscape design within the residence, emphasizing the flow from indoor to outdoor spaces.
V-House's exterior texture detailing the material choice and application. Contrasting rough stucco with smooth plaster reflects the project's material richness. It offers insight into textural interplay, essential for modern residential design, addressing aesthetic challenges.
Granite Surface Patterns
The graphic display of granite surface patterns for V-House showcases intricate interior design choices. Varied patterns highlight attention to detail and the impact of material aesthetics on interior ambiance. This illuminates how surface design enhances the sensory experience within a home, both visually and tactilely.
The Plan
Spread across two levels, the house features four bedrooms and versatile living spaces encircling a peaceful courtyard. Enhancing the ambiance are water features, skylights, and balconies, seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor areas. The terrace offers multiple functions, including a sunlit open area, a practical laundry space, and a landscaped section with a jacuzzi for relaxation.
